Abstract:	Abstract This study aims to investigate how the women of Aoulef use indirectness and the reason behind it. Data were collected by using recordings, observations and note taking during conversations. The sample has been selected based on women’s age (18-25, 26-35, 36-50, and 51-70) and the similarities which they share in topics and speech style. This study revealed that politeness, humour, self-protection and face-saving are the major motives to use indirectness. Old women claimed that the use of indirectness in speech shows the wisdom and the intelligence of the individuals and their societies. Thus, the results indicate that indirectness is increased with the increase of age
